Dual Cameras for More Creative Flexibility

The new dual-camera setup allows users to switch between wide-angle and telephoto perspectives without relying entirely on digital zoom. DJI says the telephoto system is designed to improve portrait shooting with “natural skin tones and cinematic depth.”

New images shared online suggest that the Luna Ultra’s entire controller section—including the OLED display—can detach from the camera body.

That means users can control the camera remotely while also getting a live view feed, making it much easier to frame shots from a distance or film themselves without guessing composition.

If true, this could be one of the most interesting features we’ve seen on a pocket vlogging camera so far.

The concept is somewhat similar to DJI’s FrameTap controller on the Osmo Mobile 8P or the Hohem iSteady MT3 Pro remote system. For solo creators, livestreamers, or anyone shooting talking-head videos, this could make setup and framing dramatically easier.

The Controller Does More Than Just Display Video

According to the leak, the detachable unit supports up to 4K30p live view monitoring and also displays camera settings, zoom levels, and recording information.

Physical controls on the remote reportedly include a red record button, joystick, directional pad, and several customizable function buttons. There’s also a status LED and full wireless connectivity between the controller and camera.

At NAB Show 2026 in Las Vegas, the company gave a sneak peek at its upcoming Luna series, showing off the Luna Pro and Luna Ultra behind frosted glass. It’s not a full reveal yet, but there’s already enough here to get a sense of where things are headed.

Very Familiar… for a Reason

If the design looks familiar, that’s because it kind of is.

The Luna cameras follow the same general idea as DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup: a compact body with a built-in grip, a rotating screen, and a 3-axis gimbal-mounted camera up top.

There are also two versions. The Luna Pro sticks with a single camera, while the Luna Ultra goes with a dual-lens setup—clearly aimed at competing with DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P models.

Leica Optics and Flexible Shooting

Insta360 says the Luna series will use a Type 1 sensor paired with an f/1.8 lens co-engineered with Leica, along with 10-bit color support.

There’s also mention of “variable focal lengths,” which likely means some combination of zoom or multi-camera switching. The Luna Ultra, in particular, is expected to lean into this with its dual-camera setup for better reach and framing options.

According to a report from Gizmo China, the Luna Ultra could feature a 1-inch sensor for the main camera and a 1/1.3-inch sensor for the telephoto. The focal lengths are said to be around 18mm for the wide and 70mm for the telephoto.

There’s also talk of 3.9x optical zoom, up to 6x “lossless” zoom, and even simultaneous recording from both cameras.

On the video side, it’s rumored to shoot up to 4K240p, with 10-bit color, Dolby Vision HDR, and I-Log support.

Gimbal, Screen, and a Possible Modular Twist

The Luna Ultra is expected to include a 3-axis gimbal with AI-assisted stabilization, along with a 2-inch rotating OLED screen that supports vertical shooting.

One of the more interesting rumored features is a “twist modular design,” which could let you detach the camera head from the body. If that turns out to be real, it would be a pretty big departure from DJI’s current approach.

The situation ties back to DJI’s inclusion on the FCC’s Covered List in late 2025. The designation restricts certain companies from getting approval to sell new telecommunications-related products in the U.S.
