Thypoch Voyager 24-50mm f/2.8 Zoom Set for May Announcement
Thypoch is preparing to expand beyond its manual focus roots with the launch of its first autofocus zoom lens. The company, best known for its Leica M-mount primes, recently confirmed development of the new lens—marking a notable shift in direction.
According to a report from Photo Rumors, the upcoming lens, expected to be called the Voyager, is set to be officially announced on May 14, 2026.
A New Direction for Thypoch
The move into autofocus zoom lenses represents a significant change for Thypoch. Until now, the company has focused primarily on manual focus primes with a vintage-inspired design.
This puts it more in line with other third-party manufacturers that now offer a mix of manual and autofocus lenses across multiple mounts.
24-50mm f/2.8 Zoom Range
The Voyager is expected to feature a 24-50mm focal range with a constant f/2.8 aperture. That places it in the wide-to-standard category, a versatile range suited for travel, street photography, landscapes, and environmental portraits.
While the range itself isn’t entirely new, there are relatively few options in this category. One of the closest comparisons is Sony’s FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G.
Optical Design and Performance
Leaked specifications suggest the lens will use a 16-element, 13-group optical design with a 10-blade aperture. On paper, that’s similar to Sony’s counterpart, which could hint at comparable performance, though that remains to be seen.
The lens is also expected to focus as close as 0.3 meters, with a maximum magnification of 0.216x. Details about the autofocus motor haven’t been disclosed yet.
Compact and Lightweight Build
The Voyager is rumored to weigh around 450 grams and measure 92.8mm in length. That would make it relatively compact for a full-frame f/2.8 zoom.
It’s also expected to use a 67mm filter thread and launch across multiple mounts, including Sony E, Nikon Z, and Leica L.
Pricing and Availability
Early reports suggest the Thypoch Voyager 24-50mm f/2.8 will be priced at around $700. If accurate, that would position it well below comparable first-party options.
The lens is expected to be announced on May 14, 2026, with pre-orders likely to follow shortly after.
While details are still based on early reports, the Voyager could mark an important step for Thypoch as it moves into a more competitive segment of the lens market.
