Light Lens Lab has introduced a new vintage-inspired prime for Leica M shooters, and it leans heavily into classic optical character. The new 50mm f/1.9 “Rigid-ZS6” draws inspiration from the historic Dallmeyer Super Six lenses—known for their fast apertures and distinctive rendering.

This isn’t just a cosmetic throwback either. Light Lens Lab is clearly aiming to recreate the look and feel of those older optics while adapting them for modern digital use.

A Classic Look, With Two Flavors

One interesting twist here is that the lens comes in two versions: a standard model and a low-contrast variant.

The low-contrast version is designed to lean harder into that vintage “film-like” rendering, preserving more highlight and shadow detail and giving images a softer tonal roll-off. It’s a subtle difference on paper, but likely something you’ll notice if you’re into classic glass.

As the company explains:

“The 50mm f/1.9 ‘Rigid-ZS6’ pays homage to the original 50mm f/1.9 ‘Super-Six’ optical schematic and rendering characteristics, while integrating them into the proven mechanical platform of the 50mm f/2 ‘Rigid.’”

The lens uses a classic double-Gauss design with 6 elements in 4 groups, staying true to the original Super Six formula. That means you can expect more character than clinical perfection—think expressive bokeh and a more traditional color signature.

That said, it’s still been tweaked for digital sensors, with improved center sharpness while keeping some of the original aberration characteristics intact.

Built Like a Proper Rangefinder Lens

On the build side, the Rigid-ZS6 sticks with Light Lens Lab’s premium approach. It uses a brass outer barrel with a mix of aluminum and brass internals, all manufactured in-house.

It’s also fairly compact at 45mm long and weighs just 263g, so it won’t feel out of place on smaller Leica M bodies.

Small Details That Matter

The lens uses a 39mm filter thread and comes with a clip-on hood. If you’re going for the low-contrast version, it’s marked with a small “*” on the front ring—an easy way to tell them apart.

It also joins the rest of Light Lens Lab’s “Rigid” series, which is all about pairing classic optical designs with a consistent mechanical platform.

Pricing and Availability

The Light Lens Lab 50mm f/1.9 Rigid-ZS6 is priced at $799 and is available in both standard and low-contrast versions.

It’s currently up for pre-order through the company’s online store and authorized retailers, with shipping expected to begin on May 31, 2026.
