Canon Teases New Camera Launch for May 13
Canon has dropped a teaser for a new camera announcement scheduled for May 13, 2026 at 9:00 AM EDT—just 30 minutes before Sony’s own teaser event kicks off.
The short clip features a photographer holding a camera, paired with the tagline: “Every moment has a story waiting to be told. One camera. Endless possibilities.” It’s vague, but the visuals give away a key detail.
A Flat-Top Design Points to Video
The camera shown in the teaser appears to have a flat top plate, which strongly suggests there’s no electronic viewfinder.
That’s usually a telltale sign of a video-first design—similar to cameras like the Sony FX3 or Nikon ZR. So while Canon hasn’t confirmed anything yet, this is likely aimed more at content creators and filmmakers than traditional stills shooters.

Is This the EOS R6V?
All signs point to the rumored EOS R6V, which has been making the rounds online over the past few weeks.
The idea is that it’s based on the EOS R6 Mark III platform but redesigned with video in mind. Think similar internals, but a different body layout and feature priorities.
Familiar Specs, Different Focus
According to leaks, the R6V could feature a 32.2-megapixel full-frame sensor capable of shooting 7K60p RAW and 7K30p open-gate video. Autofocus is expected to use a 1,053-point system with full-frame coverage, along with a native ISO range of 100–64,000 (expandable to 50–102,400).
If that all sounds familiar, it’s because these specs closely match the rumored EOS R6 Mark III.
What Makes It Different
The biggest difference appears to be the design.
Instead of an EVF, the R6V is expected to feature more video-oriented controls—along with an active cooling system to handle extended recording at higher resolutions.
On the back, it’s rumored to have a 3-inch 1.6-million-dot touchscreen, which will serve as the primary interface for monitoring and control.
Leaked dimensions suggest the camera will measure around 14.17 × 8.33 × 7.98 cm and weigh about 598 grams with the battery. That makes it slightly lighter than the R6 Mark III, likely due to the removal of the EVF and simplified body design.

Pricing and What to Expect
There’s no official pricing yet, but rumors place the EOS R6V at around $2,900, putting it squarely in the mid-to-high-end hybrid category.
Reports also suggest Canon could launch the camera alongside a new RF 20-50mm f/4L ISM PZ lens and a BR-E2 remote.
